ffdude1906's 50th Up Screening Spectacular!

Okay, so it wasn’t as spectacular as I had planned, but the best is yet to come! Also, I have an interesting story to tell.

So I’m at my friend’s dorm at about 6:30, (the movie starts at 7:40) working on homework, and I start letting everyone know it’s time to go. Originally, there were supposed to be about 6-7 people going with me, but it came down to 4 in the end, including myself. Kind of a bummer, but I find out later, it’s for the best.

I ended up leaving a bit late, and had to fuel up. My friends call me on the way to the theater (they’re driving separately) to ask for specific directions. As i get closer to the theater, I realize I’m gonna be about 10 minutes late, which isn’t a huge deal considering the space for previews and Partly Cloudy (I don’t mind missing that, but ANY of the movie would make me upset)

We get to the theater, I put on my new fan shirt (this thing is hardcore, I’ll send pics later) And I go inside to get my ticket

The lady recognizes me, and I say “One for Up please.”

Then, terror strikes.

At first I’m not thinking it’s so bad, but it is.

“We don’t have any more for Up. The last showing already started.”
“Wait, there’s no Up for 7:40?”
I run outside to check the screening times. Sometime between Sunday and Thursday, they changed the time from 7:40 to 7:15. What the heck?!

So I run back in, and i just say “Oh well, I’ll just come back tomorrow.”
And then the words that could kill me

:This is the last night.

Feelings of rage, confusion, and sorrow flooded my mind, I was freaking out. The movie was still playing, I ran in the theater, and it was about 45 minutes into the movie. No one was even in the theater. I go back out and ask if she could restart it, but she says no, they projectors have to run all the way through, it’s a process.

But, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel.

A theater usher tells me there’s another theater about 6 miles away playing it, and it has very late showings. Thank the lord for that man, seriously.

So we make a trip to the other theater. We get there at about 8:15ish. The last 2 showings were for 7:55, and 9:55.

Great, I had to wait for an hour and a half with all my friends. It felt kinda lame. We found a nearby game story and hung out there to kill the time til the movie started.

The screening itself wasn’t too bad, but my friends occasionally teasing me over the movie during it was a bit irritating. That was the biggest problem. The theater was rather podunk and dilapidated, but I could watch that movie on a cell phone with terrible sound quality and still be satisfied. Hehe.

Then, I took my friend home. What happens next, I’ll just have to show you. I’ve still got a bit to do over this, gimme a bit. Should be done over the weekend. But I promise you all, it WILL BE EPIC. I’ve already done it, I just have to get it ready.

Prepare yourselves Pixar Planet (and Pixar! snicker )

Conrats, ffdude! Interesting bit of drama going on there, but at least you got to see it right? Plus, it makes for a good story. Can’t wati to see what you have planned.

Aw!! That first part must have sucked so bad!!! But the part where you had to wait around for an hour and a half reminds me back when Alvin and the Chipmunks came out. We went on opening day, and my friend picked me up late. As in, the first showing was all out of tickets. So four of my friends got to see it before me and my other friend while we were just walking around the mall for two hours. :frowning: Yeah, it sucked.

But your story makes for a very dramatic 50th viewing!

Yeah, that’s what I thought. Also, I kind of was hoping that it would happen, very very slightly hoping, (regarding the second movie, not the first one being out). When she told me it was the last day, I was like “Hmm, if we can find a way around this, it’d be an awesome story for my 50th!” XD

Very glad I got it taken care of, that would have destroyed me!

Congrats on 50th, that took dedication.

Can’t wait to see what you have planned for us.

Wow, talk about total drama! :open_mouth: Thank goodness the ‘crisis’ was averted! Well, I can’t wait to see what stunt you pulled this time, but knowing you, I bet it’ll be spectacular!

Congratulations for making it to 50 views, Chris! That is quite an achievement - you must feel very satisfied with yourself, especially after still catching a screening after the debacle of the 7:15pm showing . You’re the number one, ichiban, uber Up fan here, that’s for sure.

Oooh, I can’t wait to see what the surprise is that you have in store. From your Skype status and twitter account I have an idea, but we’ll have to wait and see, I suppose…

Congrats on your 50th viewing! Way to work through all the obstacles and obtain your goal! There is no question what so ever that you are the biggest Up fan!

Can’t wait to see your finale events!

Haha, thanks you all, it really makes me feel good knowing I have your support and praise. I still have to get that ‘surprise’ ready, but it’ll likely be up tomorrow.

Oh wow, even as I was reading your post I was starting to feel panicky. Thank goodness you managed to go somewhere else for your 50th viewing, and congratulations on seeing it so many times! I look forward to this ‘surprise’ you’ve got in store for us.

Congratulations!
I guess I can call myself lucky if I manage to scrape 10 viewings, but 50 - this is soooo awesome!

Can’t wait for the surprise to be revealed…

It’s here people, the fruits of my arduous, novice movie-editing and filming labor have formed this:

Sent it to all the Pixarians I follow on Twitter, addressing it to Pixar.

Now, I’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

Enjoy!

Awesome video! I laughed so much I got tears in my eyes.
I seriously hope the folks at Pixar will enjoy that crazy video of yours (and your drawings - MO looks stunning, btw.) and that your dream will come true.

P.S.
Thanks for the greetings!

P.P.S.
How was the cake?

ffdude: To quote that kid on the tricycle from The Incredibles: “That was totally wicked!” Bravo!

I’ve taken the initiative to start a full-on campaign for this video on Twitter. If you are a Twitter user, please retweet this to all the Pixarians (as many as you like). If you don’t know the @names of the Pixarians, see this thread: Pixarians on Twitter

Here’s what to retweet:

Go on and support our #1 Up fanatic!

Oh my gosh Phileas, you’re seriously amazing, I didn’t expect that at all. I’m absolutely flattered by your support, thank you so much.

Pixar Planet, I love all of you guys, and I do want to thank all of you for everything. This place is as close to perfect as I’ve ever experienced.

That was a wonderful video you put together! A nice, sincere statement about your love of Pixar. I hope as many Pixarians as possible view your video! I’ve RTed Phileas’ message.

Oh, and thanks for the mention

Oh wow, ffdude1906. To say your love of Pixar comes across in that video is an understatement. I hope the people at Pixar watch it in their masses and that you get some kind of a reply from them! It was great seeing how your art skills have improved, and I loved the surprise finale.

Very touching video, ffdude! I’m sure the Pixarians will appreciate it. The ending was unexpected but really funny. Good luck on getting to Pixar and congrats again!

And thanks for the mention. That was nice. <img src=“{SMILIES_PATH}/love2.gif” alt=“:loves:” title="In

Thank you all again, and thanks to the people re-tweeting for me on twitter, I really appreciate it. The only Pixarian who’s replied to me about it so far is Lee, talking about the cake, but I’m still hoping for someone to say something! A few of my followers and you guys on here have been really supportive of this, and I really can’t thank you enough for it. That’s totally awesome, makes me feel a bit less nervous about doing this whole thing.

Excuse the double post, but now it’s starting to get insane.

Got replies from Lee, Michael Fredrickson (his comment was particularly flattering) Cat Hicks, and a few other Pixarians. HOWEVER, I found this tweet today.

From animator Lindsay VanderGalien, she’s been making a bit of a big deal about the vid (WOW!) and she tweeted me this.

@lvl27_Cubone Chris watched all 10 mins of your video. Thankyou so much for supporting Up & our studio. Good luck @ school! Keep us UPdated!

The re-tweet

Now THIS is a Pixar fan heh. RT: @lvl27_Cubone: bit.ly/WgtoM For all you guys in E-Ville!

And the big one.

@lvl27_Cubone The video is going around the studio this morning

I can’t breathe. Oh my god.

I also got an E-Mail from Michael M (not sure what the last name is) asking how far I am from Emeryville. This is getting absolutely insane. hyperventilates
