Cars 2 Easter Eggs and References.

I looked up some of the easter eggs and noticed there was a State Farm reference. Its when Finn and Holley tell Mater he’s a secret agent. Mater thinks they mean an insurance agent and Mater says “Like a good neighbor, Matter is there!” I found it up on Pixar wikia.

Mater’s birthday is shown in the film. during the end credits, his passport scrolls by.

I have a fairly extensive list (so far) at stitchkingdom.com/disney-car … ggs-16708/ - more than that’s shared here.

I did leave off Filmore’s license plate because that was from the first film, no? But as a suitable replacement, I added what Finn’s license plate means, although it wasn’t really a secret to begin with

I saw some commenters on TPT discussing the possible Brave reference:

So I looked up the movie (sorry :stuck_out_tongue:) and took a screencap (spoilers):

It’s hard to tell from this picture, but it seems like the most likely location for it.

I think I see it! [spoil]The picture of the fireplace, is that apicture of the Merida and her parental units?[/spoil]

Wow no-one said this yet, but at the very end, [spoil]where Finn tells Mater that if he needs anything, to tell him, to which Mater replies “No…Well, there is one thing…”[/spoil] is a direct copy of the scene at the end of the first movie, when [spoil]Tex is talking to Lightning.[/spoil](I put that in spoilers too, since it is a direct copy, for sure)

Oh yes! I realized that in theatres, and I thought it was a perfect way to end the movie.

I just remembered another one. Everyone knows Crabby right? [spoil]The boat Finn is on in the beginning?[/spoil] Well, I’m positive that its a reference to the Northwestern from Deadliest catch. Here take a look:
Crabby
Northwestern
PS. I think I also read that Crabby was voiced by the captain of the Northwestern so…

I read an article on /film that got taken down for some reason, but it confirmed that Brave easter egg, and also said that:
[spoil]The PP truck appears on the Mel Dorado show before Axelrod comes on, and that John Lasseter also voices the “fuzzy dice!” car in the casino.[/spoil]

i found the brave eaaster egg!!!

ill give you a hint;
Its where two lemons find themselves in the London “Ye Left Turn Inn”. look closely on the walls…

Pixar said that there is always a reference to future film(s) in their current films, so that is probably quite possible that there is a Brave reference.

The only one I saw as “Lassetyre”. But I did spot the Pizza Planet truck and two others I can’t quite remember, so I am looking forward to adding those to the in jokes list.

I tried looking up the coordinates that Finn had Crabby take him to at the beginning:
When taken out of DMS form and written as standard coordinates, they are 40.113333, -172.397333. I plugged them into Geohack. I was hoping to see real life giant oil rigs sitting there in there in the open ocean, but it looks like it’s just empty water.

I guess something that is cool is that the coordinates are in the Northern Pacific, a few hundred miles south of the Aleutian Islands. If anyone has ever watched Deadliest Catch, they would know that Sig Hansen and the Northwestern crew are frequent those waters and the base of operations is at Dutch Harbor, in the Aleutian Islands. So I guess it just shows how much detail Pixar goes into, and it’s consistent with the idea that Sig Hanson’s character that Finn flagged down is actually his ship in real life. Pretty cool! :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ll probaly be seeing it again on Saturday with some friends. I’ll keep a look out for the mentioned ones and then some.

Do Apple refs count? [spoil]Finn jokingly refers to Holley as an iPhone app designer at one point.[/spoil]

Wait, he actually said that?? :astonished: I’ve watched the film three times in theaters, and each time, I could’ve sworn I heard him say that, but I thought I was just hearing things! 8D

I believe they count, there are a few refs in other Pixar movies as well.

I only noticed two references in this. [spoil]The Incredimobiles (which I personally loved) and the Rataouille movie reference that I forgot the name of. I didn’t see the A113, or the Pizza Planet truck. But next time, I’ll look.

And lets not forget John Ratzenberger![/spoil]

Not unless we’re sharing an hallucination! 8D

Mater: But my line of work is towing and salvage!
Finn: Riiiight… And Miss Shiftwell here designs iPhone apps.

I remember hearing that one. This and Finn’s [spoil]“iPhone apps”[/spoil] line were the only two lines in the movie that got huge laughs out of the audience when I saw it. 8D

I’m interested in the [spoil]“Lassetyre”[/spoil] thing but I’m sure I’ll see it when I go back for my second viewing tomorrow. And I agree with what was said about the courtyard and the fountain looking just like the location of “One Man Band.” I also found some references.

This is a reference to the first movie. [spoil]When Mater asks Lightning if he’s ready for his “best friend plans.” Lightning answers “I’m Lightning McQueen. I can handle anything.” which is exactly what he said to Mater when he invited him to go tractor tipping in the first movie.

The car that Mater saw with eyes in the headlights looks exactly like one of the cars from the old Chevron commercials. Anyone remember those? LOL. (Thank goodness, they didn’t put the eyes in the headlights 'cause that was way too bizzare.) :open_mouth:

Uncle and Mama’s last name of “Topolino” is the Italian name for Mickey Mouse. No lie, I didn’t believe it at first either. Put “Topolino” in Google Translate.

This is not really a reference but I know some people were talking about it. John Lasseter voices two characters in the film: John Lassetire, Jeff Gorvette’s crew chief, and a gambling car in the Porto Corsa Casino who says “C’mon, fuzzy dice!” Brad Lewis performs the voice of one of the Lemons during the Porto Corsa scene.[/spoil]

In the Cars 2 poster with the globe, there are character silhouettes in different locations around the world.

If you look where the UK is towards the right, Lightning is hanging off the edge of it and right across from him to the left is Mater. Down by South America and the Caribbean is Finn and (This one took a while for me to actually see.) Fransesco is part of the Great Lakes in the USA. Do you see it?

You got to love Pixar for doing these types of things. :sunglasses:

I’m looking at the poster and I honestly don’t see anything. ^^;

Netbug, prepare to have your mind blown:

That is seriously so awesome and genius of Pixar! I can’t believe I didn’t notice it before! :astonished: Thanks for the awesome find, SallyMcQueen.
